Nominee for ‘Young ICT Lady of the Year’ joins Stellar Labs

Here at Stellar Labs we truly believe our people make us who we are. We’re a group of passionate people who have a passion for training the skills of tomorrow and solving the burgeoning skills gap. So choosing our next new hire was a tough decision. But from all of the applicants, one stood out. A young, passionate woman, a self confessed geek and educational designer and scientist, with a twist. So it was a no brainer to get the one and only Karen Mouws on board.

Karen has a Masters Degree in Educational Sciences and has had a varied career thus far, from research to IT. But through it all there has been one common theme, exploring the boundaries of digital technology and learning. And that curiosity about technology and learning is what makes Karen a perfect fit for Stellar Labs. With previous colleagues commenting that Karen would “proudly jump on the barricades for digital inclusion” we knew she was ready to join the learning revolution with us here at Stellar Labs.

December has already been a busy month for Karen both in and out of the ‘office’. As her joining Stellar Labs coincided with the announcement of her nomination for ‘Young ICT Lady of the Year’. The award, which rewards women who have distinguished themselves in the field of ICT has been running for 14 years, and is a hugely acclaimed title to be nominated for. So it’s safe to say we’re incredibly proud of our new recruit.

These words define Karen Mouws: learning, games, digital creativity and inclusion!” Karen’s bio on the voting page of the awards says it all. She’s ready to look at learning from a different perspective to make a real impact. Commenting on her new role, Karen said “I want to help push the boundaries of professional learning, which can serve a ground zero for a more accepting and continuously evolving work environment. I am thrilled to be working with an organisation who will turn blended learning upside down.”

As a Young ICT Lady, Karen has said she would “pry open the digital doors in this world for girls and women,” – anyone “who needs a hand.” What better role model than “my own non-traditional role model,” inspiring people “no matter their background or gender.” I’m sure you will agree that Karen’s passion is infectious.

We’re thrilled to have this shining star join the Stellar Labs team as a Learning Architect, and we’re so excited for the future with Karen on board. If you want to help Karen with her race for the top spot, you can vote for her to win Young ICT Lady of the Year 2021, here (but be quick, voting closes on December 31st!)
